The geometry forms and transition of drawing
Through the projects of D.I.R.T studio, it can be easily recognised that actual structure of their works are ecological, sustainable and practical by reusing existing material as a natural resources. The practice discovers site backgrounds (histories), post-industrial landscape systems, engineering, policy, technologies, sciences and economics as the place to start planning.
Drawing is the one of design tools to indicate notion of process in the practice. However, the practice is doing more real construction of landscape rather than experiment on materials and shape of structure therefore I ask my self why geometry shape is easily revealed into landscape plan through it? Why drawing is not be clearly conveyed with actual structure?
Looking into plan of ‘GreeNOLA: Holy Cross project’, there is a geometry forms and primary colour that linked to Kandinsky’s ‘Hard in Soft’ oil painting. We may imagine this plan would be huge impression in actual structure however, in reality, the concept of plan was not conveyed with materials, textures and colour which was illustrated on paper. However, movement of the space reveal through direction of the geometrical forms and ‘linear structure’ shows the complexity of such harmonious, “decorative” picture (Jelena Hahl-Koch,1993). Drawing the plan we just seek to space we will use despite of this, building the structure we need to concern about every detail such as user, circumstances of the area, costing etc. therefore there are some limitation to create new. To conclude, drawing with geometry forms for giving picture of the space however no detail of materials or textures in actual structure.
